Go Flex

The song title “Go Flex” means to show off, as this is what he does often to show his position and status throughout the music industry.

 

The lyrics however, are not about showing off. They are instead about his journey and rise to the fame he currently has, and he talks about the struggles he has had throughout his life and journey. The song is a look at his rise to fame. The song blends a variety of genres into one track, and this includes his raps, along with an acoustic guitar, which is uncommon in this genre.

The video that has been made for for the song uses light heavily. It starts with a very orange and red tone but the transaction using the car rear view mirror then changes this to a blue tone. The lyrics “helps me forget that this world is so cold” relates to this cold blue colours grade, this acoustic guitar could also relate to his start on the lower end of the music industry. Adding to this he is also wear ‘double denim’ which matches the blue colouring of this segment of the video. The lyrics at the start of the song signify how post malone was once ‘lost’ with what he was going in his career. His struggles were not going away and his hopes of becoming a larger well known artist where playing out to how he wanted to be.

 

The first chorus starts and the atmosphere starts to pickup. The lyrics “man i just wanna go flex” connote that malone wants to be able to show off what he’s got but isn’t able just yet. The colours grading of the video changes to more of a natural lighting and so does the setting, instead of being in a run down far house its now in a very scenic open stretch of land which malone being the main feature. He is also how ‘free’ compared to being contained inside of the rickety old building.

 

There is also now a girl in the video along with an expensive classic car, this would highlight that malone has moved up in the popularity chart and has got a bigger following along with more money. The lyrics “she’s doing things to excite me” displays that his mood has also gotten better and that the career he has worked for is slowly coming together, his performance in the video also seems more upbeat and he is more ‘into’ the song 

 

The chorus comes back around and the colour of the video changes again. This time is changes back to the red/orange tone. This means that Malone has finally got to the status that he aspired to be at. He is also now performing with another artist showing he has got people who want to work with him. the flaming barrels could signify that Post Malone is on fire. Finally th video has a stiff change back to blue, this would represent Malone thinking back to when he had nothing and how he has got to where he is now.
