Analysis of DigiPaks

Post Malone - Stoney
This Digipak is from Post Malone's 2016 album, Stoney. The first thing that strikes me as i look at this digipak is the bright orange colour in the background. This colour creates a strong and recognisable background. This colour creates the link between the front and back cover as they both have the same colour. This bright colour stands out to consumers when purchasing it amongst other CDs. Another distinctive feature of the cover is the title of the CD and the font/colour specifically. The title is placed centrally at the bottom and is only in smaller writing, meaning it's not the main focus of the cover. The font is unique with the first and last letters larger than the rest of the text and looks as if the 'S' and 'Y' are in the shape of a lightning bolt. The way Post Malone is sat, his body position and facial expression create am expectation from us for the music. It looks as if he's in deep thought and contemplating something and that what wed expect to get a sense of when listening to his music on the album. (Fin)

J Cole - 4 Your Eyes Only
This digipak is from J Cole's 2016 album, '4 Your Eyez Only'. The first thing that stands out about the front cover is the outline/border that surrounds the image. It looks ripped and torn around as if someones trying to ruin or discard the work and album. The ripped border gives the idea that the album is rough around the edges and raw, not computer generated and completely edited and changed from it's original form and completely represents J Cole as an artist. The next distinctive feature of the album is the image on the front cover. It shows J Cole standing and it seems like he's thinking about something, and in the bottom corner a little child is staring up at him as if he's an important figure and he's looking up to him. the next feature is the title text on the front cover. The font is in a handwriting style and doesn't necessarily stand out compared to everything else on the front cover. This text does create a link to the back however as its the same font as the track list on back. this tracklist is on the left and is organsied so it seems unorganised and imperfect. The border also carries over as it has the ripped border and the image on the back shows the standard life of a young child in their home. (Me)

Kendrick Lamar - Damn
This digipak is from Kendrick Lamar's 2017 album, 'Damn'. The first thing that strikes me when looking at the front is the title 'damn' in a big red bold font at the top of the cover. The font is the type you'd expect to see in a formal piece of text and creates a contrast to the contents of this rap album. The image on the front cover is also very basic, with it being unedited and just a photo of Kendrick against a red bricked wall. With no special editing added to make the photo more complex, it defies the mould of a general rap/hip hop album and creates a very different view of the album compared to other albums in the same genre. The back cover is also very different to the front cover and creates a complete contrast compared to most albums keeping the same style, back and front. The title is the same size and in the same position on the back cover as it is on the front cover which creates a link but is in a different colour, but still stands out as its in green. A similar photo is used but Kendrick doesn't have his head bowed and is looking directly in to the consumers eyes, but in the back cover, the background has been removed and they put it on a black background. The title of the tracks are centre aligned and sit in between a back and white background. (Sean)
